Acutonics Sound Therapy

Acutonics (Acu-tonics) is a system of vibrational sound therapy rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and informed by modern scientific principles. It utilizes precision-calibrated tuning forks, each set to specific frequencies (measured in hertz, Hz) derived from mathematical relationships of naturally occurring frequencies found in planetary and geophysical systems.
The human body is composed of approximately 50–60% water. Since sound travels efficiently through water, vibrational frequencies applied through tuning forks can be transmitted throughout the body, supporting nervous system regulation and a shift toward the parasympathetic, or restorative, state.
When tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture points or activated near the body, patients commonly report reduced pain, deeper relaxation, and an increased sense of calm. As the nervous system moves into this regulated state, many symptoms and patterns of imbalance may be positively influenced.
Practitioners assess treatment needs using the Eight Diagnostic Criteria of Chinese Medicine—yin and yang, interior and exterior, cold and heat, and deficiency and excess. Each tuning fork frequency produces a distinct vibrational quality that influences the nervous system and local tissue response. Applied within the framework of pattern differentiation, Acutonics can be integrated alongside acupuncture and herbal medicine as an additional therapeutic tool to support nervous system regulation, restore balance, and help the body move toward homeostasis.
The Acutonics system is calibrated in relationship to the Schumann Resonance, approximately 7.83 Hz, a naturally occurring electromagnetic frequency of the Earth that is continuously measured and documented by scientific institutions, including NASA.
Acutonics was developed in 1997 by Donna Carey, PhD, LAc, and Marjorie de Muynck, MA, LMP, whose backgrounds include Oriental Medicine, Asian healing arts, and music. Today, the Acutonics system is utilized in clinical and healing institutions worldwide as a complementary modality to support relaxation, nervous system balance, and whole-body well-being.
