Woman Work
I’ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I’ve got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The cane to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.
Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.
Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
‘Til I can rest again.
Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.
Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You’re all that I can call my own.

For my sister and my mother. Thank you for all you do. My life is blessed because of you both.
I remember one day I said to my mother, “I like your sweater.” Her response, “Do you want it?,” and promptly started taking it off! It is the epitome of my mother – unselfish giving, always looking out for her children, always looking out for me. I truly believe I can accomplish anything in my life because of the backbone of support I receive from my mother. I also witness this strength in my sister as she cares for her children. Both of them do Woman Work, effortlessly, and seamlessly.
I also have the privilege of working every day with many women who are mothers and also hear many stories from daughters. Every day, I hear amazing stories of love and care.
On this day, I acknowledge all women for all they do and who they are – beautiful goddesses. Today, stand in your glory, bask in the sun.
With love to Mom and Sister,
